The Yardi legal department seeks a highly motivated individual with at least five years of litigation experience to join our legal team. The position is primarily located at our headquarters in Santa Barbara but will require travel as needed to Boston and other destinations as litigation may require. This exempt position will report directly to the Vice President and General Counsel but will be informally supervised by and work on various litigation matters at the direction of Senior Counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Handling a range of litigation matters involving legal, regulatory and business disputes and includes assisting with the management of outside counsel
  • Managing the successful resolution of pending, threatened and actual disputes including all aspects of discovery
  • Negotiating client software licensing agreements, vendor agreements, non-disclosure agreements, lease agreements, and other types of contracts
  • Providing guidance and advice to a variety of internal customers at all levels of the company on both litigation and non-litigation business matters
  • Executing existing and developing new strategies for handling pending, threatened and actual litigation
  • Communicating effectively with internal and external parties, including opposing counsel, customers, regulators, public authorities, and senior management
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of existing laws, rules and regulations applicable to various aspects of the company’s business—including in particular the company’s tenant screening business as governed by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and other state and local laws, rules and regulations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Law degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Active Bar membership in the United States with no record of discipline
  • At least five years of relevant legal experience, with at least some commercial litigation experience
  • Highest level of professional ethics and personal integrity and sound judgement
  • Superlative verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong demonstrated ability to work individually and as a team, including under pressure, with minimal direct supervision and while managing competing priorities
  • Interest in learning and analyzing complex statutes (such as the FCRA)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft® Word, Excel and Outlook, and a comfort level learning and using proprietary matter management software
  • Friendly, collegial and collaborative disposition
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time for litigation and business matters
  • Mix of law firm and in-house legal experience
  • Litigation management experience (in both state and federal court)
  • Working knowledge of the FCRA, consumer reporting generally or tenant screening specifically
  • Risk assessment, management and mitigation experience
  • Software licensing agreement drafting and negotiation experience
  • Familiarity with software development, complex relational databases, cloud computing and software-as-a-service (SaaS) environments
