Instructional Designer I

The Instructional Designer I helps create eLearning courses and course components as well as video and audio training assets. Key functions include developing basic courses by defining learning objectives, compiling information, writing original content, polishing design elements, and finalizing projects in a variety of media. The Instructional Designer I is responsible for knowing and adhering to Yardi’s internal design standards for basic projects, utilizing basic editing and design skills and seeking and incorporating feedback from reviewers.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates basic proficiency with standard in-platform authoring tools
• Develops basic courses by defining learning objectives, developing exercises, and writing effective assessments that facilitate learner retention
• Creates content and obtains, analyzes, and incorporates constructive feedback from a variety of reviewers including industry experts, clients, and Yardi management
• Selects, suggests, and incorporates visual components for incorporation in courses
• Incorporates basic user engagement strategies within a course to maximize retention
• Performs basic course or video adjustments including linking files, adding video/audio to a page, archiving files, inserting closed captioning scripts, uploading SCORM files, applying templates, or transferring content to a page
• Creates video and audio assets using basic recording and capture techniques
• Reviews externally produced training content, divides content into logical sections, and develops basic online courses that adhere to Yardi release standards
• Provides appropriate documentation to Development to request software enhancements
• Regularly reviews content produced by other team members and provides constructive feedback
• Maintains appropriate project management documentation

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following: Teaching, Instructional Design, Communications, Marketing, Technical Writing, Graphic Design, Multimedia highly desirable
• Up to two (2) years of experience in video production, audio/music editing, graphic design, web design, script writing, animation, or gamification
• Up to two (2) years of experience with Yardi’s software and service offerings, including Yardi eLearning, or other corporate tools
• Basic familiarity with audio tools such as Adobe Audition and Audacity
• Basic familiarity with image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
• Basic familiarity with screen capture and editing technology such as Camtasia and Adobe Premiere or Captivate
• Ability to learn and develop basic video and audio editing skills
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks on time within a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to research, develop, and edit training content that adheres to basic instructional design standards highly desirable
• Ability to test, identify, and document software issues highly desirable
